Villette states that the maze was destroyed in 1825 and reconstructed in 1894. Verbrugge states that it was destroyed "vers 1828" and reconstructed "entre 1894 et 1897". Matthews includes a diagram of the former layout, which shows it to have been the negative ( i.e. white on black instead of black on white) and the mirror image of the present layout ( i.e. anticlockwise instead of clockwise).
